S. MARIA DELLA PACE (Facade)

• Facade. designed by Pietro da Cortona(1596-1669).

• The semicirclic portico with Toscan columns and Ionic entablature, modified pediment and bulgy facade influenced many architects in Baroque age such as Bernini.
  
  
• Pietro da Cortona, his real name was Pietro Berrettini, was a representativ High Baroque painter in Roma. He was also fresco painter, interior designer and alter painter in 17c. His interest was how combine paintings, sculptures and architectures.
• This is a good sample to show how Roman Baroque architectureis characterized by a continuous interaction between the two levels. One level prepares for urban symbol and the other level prepares for the real function for the people.
  
  
• The cloister of S. Maria della Pace is a High Renaissance architecture designed by Donato Bramante(1444-1514).
